  I plug the ups in and it just klicks, no leds or power out, just dead. all fuses ok, internal battery at 5.8 volts

  there was a power surge and the batteries are no longer being charged. Before the unit went completly dead you could hear it continuously switching, back and forth, apparently between the backup batteries and mains power supply.
