RCA Telephone 25424re1-A

Can't change phone ID

I have a 4-line base unit. I also have a cordless expansion handset. Both have (01) as their ID's. I have been trying to change one or both of the ID's so that I can set up the transfer function between stations, but this is driving me crazy. I can't get it to work. Anyone have some advice???
