Polaroid DVD Player PDV0700S

Please help find the manual for this Polaroid DVD Player

Why will this not play DVDs converted from avi or mpeg to dvd formats. I have tried a couple of different trial converter programs before I buy but the player states bad disc. I am using HP DVD+R discs/
