Kenwood Two-Way Radio TS-50

Kenwood HF Transceiver Problem
Posted by kimgsmith on May 23rd, 2008 at 10:52am

I bought a brand new TS-50 about two years ago from AES and just now took it out of the box after moving. It works great except that it will not transmit at power levels above 10 watts. When I try 50 or 100 watts, the transmitter shuts off and I get the "hello" message, then the receiver takes over. I tried clearing the memory by depressing the A=B button while powering the rig up but no change. I have a 1:1 SWR on my inverted V with a MFJ antenna tuner, and a 25 Amp aston power supply that easily powers my 50 Watt 2M rig and accessories. Again, the rig works beautifully at 10 Watts and I've gotten good signal reports on 40M CW. Are there any other TS-50 users out there who have experienced this problem? If someone can save me the trouble of sending the rig in for service, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks,

Kim
