Whirlpool Gas Range SF365PE60

oven won't stay on

We are renting, so the range came with the place. When we turn on the oven a 10 min timer comes on and the oven heats up. when the timer goes off, the oven starts to cool down and only stays warm. I thought the timer was a preheat timer, but now I am beginning to wonder if that is the case. I have no owners manual to see how the oven really works.
Please help.
