General Electric Cordless Telephone 28128

problem hearing

I receive calls, answer the phone and the caller hears me, but I cannot hear them. I cannot hear the dial tone, but I can call someone they hear me, but mute on my end. How to fix???

    the brochure in many different languages, does not tell me how to fix the problem of not hearing the party calling or that I call. Volume is set at 4.
